We are currently recruiting for a Communications Officer in Preston.
Pay rate: PAYE £15.58 per hour/UMB £19.85 per hour.
Hours: Full time (37hrs per week)
Contract duration: Temporary ongoing
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
Press and Media
- Develop and manage a scheduled plan of news stories and promotional activities highlighting local services and initiatives.
- Produce press releases, blogs, case studies, and feature articles; coordinate media interviews with briefing notes for local, regional, and national outlets.
- Handle media enquiries professionally to protect and enhance the reputation of both the organization and the Client.
- Respond effectively to public enquiries to maintain a positive public image.
- Monitor and evaluate media coverage and track all proactive and reactive spokesperson comments to assess performance.
Social Media and Digital
- Oversee planning, content creation, and ongoing management of all organizational websites and social media channels, including Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
- Provide guidance to departments and staff on best practices for using social media effectively.
- Support events and community activities by publishing engaging articles, photos, and videos across digital platforms.
- Prepare and edit video and audio content to promote services and initiatives online.
- Boost online engagement, grow follower numbers, and increase awareness through targeted content and campaigns.
- Monitor and assess the impact of digital activity and campaign success.
Internal Communications
- Assist in strengthening internal communications to boost staff engagement, including maintaining the intranet, managing a staff Facebook page, and producing internal newsletters.
- Advise and train leadership teams and elected members on communication strategies and reputation management
Key Projects and Strategic Communications
- Produce high-quality content across digital, print, and social platforms—using storytelling, photography, videography, and promotional materials to enhance public perception.
- Support the delivery of major events, corporate projects, and public campaigns with well-planned, multi-channel communications strategies.
- Offer guidance on sensitive reputational issues and contribute to crisis communications as needed.
- Promote strategic priorities and reinforce the Client’s image as a vibrant, inclusive, and economically thriving city.
- Increase awareness and engagement with various organizational brands, supporting communications strategies aimed at stakeholders, including investors, developers, and visitors.
