We are currently recruiting for a Digital Forensics Investigator based in Essex.

 

Pay rate: £23.47 PAYE / £30.04 umbrella – per hour (paid weekly)

Hours: Full time (37 hours per week)

Contract duration: Temporary ongoing

 

Purpose:

  • Working in the Digital Forensics Unit, responsible for the identification, recovery, analysis and reporting on examination of computer related material in criminal, civil or disciplinary investigation.
  • Working as a Covert Internet Investigator on cyber enabled or cyber dependant investigations.
  • Provide programming skills to produce applications as required by the Department
  • Provide professional evidence in criminal casework, appearing at criminal courts in prosecution action, anywhere in the UK.

 

Duties:

  • Attend search and seizure operations executed by the department against criminals, anywhere in the UK, providing expert advice on the correct identification and seizure of computer related material.
  • Undertake examinations of electronic material seized in criminal investigations, this may include computers, mobile phones and other devices.
  • Produce professional reports to investigation teams, lawyers and other key stakeholders on your findings, supported by a professional witness statement where required.
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of the Investigation Manual and Circulars such as in relation to the recording of investigation activity, particularly in respect of Health and Safety issues when working off-site and outside core hours.
  • Undertake visits to suspects, witnesses and other organisation and to obtain witness statements in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act and Civil Procedure Rules where applicable.
  • Prepare for, and undertake, covert surveillance with other officers.  To prepare and deliver operation orders and briefings for such activity to other staff, police officers and other agencies.
  • Provide support and advice to Investigators on the value and lawfulness of deploying of a CII in any investigation.
  • Prepare applications for assistance from other agencies in joint arrest and search operations. To brief officers prior to the operation and be accountable for all evidence seized by the police.
  • Act as first or second officer in interviews under caution conducted in accordance with the Police & Criminal Evidence Act.
  • Close files on completion of investigations, taking necessary action to ensure that relevant facts are recorded.
  • Prepare and deliver relevant training to colleagues in the department and other partners on forensic computer related matters when required.
  • Contribute to suggestions for the improvement of procedures and service provision.

 

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in using relevant tools to conduct forensic analysis of computers and mobile phones, such as EnCase, AXIOM, FTK, XWays, NUIX, Paraben, Cellebrite or XRY.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems and terminology, able to explain their use to persons with little or no experience.
  • Experience of managing your own casework efficiently and effectively, ensuring key deadlines are met.
  • Proven experience of successfully investigating allegations of crime relating to economic crime.
