We are currently recruiting for Intelligence Researchers in Putney.
Pay rate: PAYE 18.78 per hour/UMB 23.22 per hour.
Hours: Hybrid role- 3 days in office
Contract duration: Temporary ongoing
Purpose:
The role holder will provide research support collaboratively as part of a team of analysts, researchers and police officers working under the Strategic Intelligence and Briefing Team (SIB). The post holder will assist with the assessment, briefing and coordination of the flow of intelligence relating to aggravated activism, strategic protest and significant public order events across the United Kingdom (UK) to identify and mitigate risk, harm and threat. The SIB provides intelligence and assessment for both police and law enforcement stakeholders and forms part of the National Police Coordination Centre’s folio.
Duties:
- Our core responsibilities are within public order and public safety policing – to develop assessments, event planning and the review of security in line with policing’s core duties to prevent and detect crime, keep the peace and to protect life and property.
- Public order policing is changing and evolving – emerging technologies and a growing population make the assessment of risk to public order more complex than ever. That’s why we need experienced intelligence professionals to work with us. We are seeking people who are passionate about research; who realise not everything is what it seems; and who know that maintaining the peace and facilitating lawful protest is enshrined in UK legislation.
- It’s about collating, summarising and interpreting a range of information sources to deliver valuable, insightful research to inform the threat, risk and harm picture across the UK. These research products will be instrumental in providing an overview and clear picture of key areas of national policing. You will have an eye for detail and a curious outlook in order to search and retrieve relevant information held on a variety of systems.
- Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting SIB intelligence analysts and police officers by interrogating police indices to develop and maintain intelligence profiles, populate databases, conduct open source research and contribute to the production of threat assessments and briefing documents.
Essential Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook packages.
- Confident working on their own or as part of a larger team
- Good written and verbal communication skills (by phone and in person)
- Ability to organise own workload and work to changing deadlines
- Due to the nature of the role and the requirements of the different agencies that you will liaise with, candidates must either currently hold, or be willing to undergo and then successfully attain ‘Security Cleared’ (SC) vetting status

Desirable Skills:
- Previous experience with police intelligence systems eg. PND, PNC, Force level intelligence databases
- Understanding of the Police Network and local, regional and national structures
- A keen interest in current affairs and world events and an understanding of the wider government intelligence strategies
- Experience with and/or knowledge of popular social media platforms
- Previous experience as an Intelligence Researcher would be advantageous but is not a requirement
- An understanding of how intelligence research is used in operational policing would be advantageous but not an essential requirement
