We are currently recruiting for Investigation Officers based in Greater Manchester.
Pay rate: £20.86 PAYE / £26.53 umbrella – per hour (paid weekly)
Hours: Office based – Full time
Contract duration: Temporary ongoing
Purpose:
- Investigate crimes falling within national, regional and force counter terrorism and extremism control strategies.
- Provide appropriate support to security service priority investigations.
- Ensure that on receipt of, or during the development of intelligence in relation to identified threats, or in reaction to events, that thorough investigations are pursued with the aim of securing prosecution.
Duties:
- Conduct reactive and proactive investigations under the direction of an SIO.
- Attend scenes of crime and make initial enquiries, carry out fast track actions where necessary to establish important facts, and preserve evidence.
- Interview witnesses and suspects concerning terrorist investigations and take statements.
- Maximise opportunities to gather intelligence from witnesses, prisoners and members of the public.
- Search premises in connection with terrorism or other offences.
- Act as team leader in outside enquiry teams in major incident investigations.
- Interview possible suspects either to eliminate them from enquiries or to assess their involvement in the offences under investigation.
- Carry out research actions in relation to gathering intelligence on matters.
- Search and retrieve data from the IT systems including HOLMES 2 and other databases.
- Whilst conducting investigations, ensure that information collected for policing purposes is recorded and evaluated in accordance with the Guidance on the Management of Police Information 2006. (MOPI) This includes applying correct principles to recording and evaluating intelligence on the national information intelligence report 5x5x5.
- Ensure that intelligence activity is undertaken in compliance with all relevant legislation (CPIA, RIPA, DPA, HRA) and according to national standards of good practice (i.e., MIRSAP, NIM).
- Ensure that intelligence, logs and other related documentation is recorded, secured and disseminated appropriately, in compliance with the Government Protective Marking Scheme (GPMS).
- Identify potential Covert Human Intelligence Sources for recruitment.
- Comply with the National Crime Recording Standard and minimum investigative requirements.
- Pursue investigations with the correct legal authorities using a variety of techniques using both overt and covert methodology.
Essential Experience:
- Experience in the preparation of complex reports.
- Experience of investigations.
- Experience of liaising with partner agencies.
- Experience of duties such as researching, recording, checking, inputting and retrieving information from a variety of paper and computer based systems.
- Experience and confidence in using a range of IT systems and applications.
- Experience of being able to work effectively on own or as part of a team.
