We are currently recruiting for Investigations Officer based in Essex.

 

Pay rate: £24.79 PAYE / £31.73 umbrella – per hour (paid weekly)

Hours: Full time (37 hours per week).

Contract duration: Temporary ongoing

 

Purpose:  To identify and investigate serious organised crime cases throughout the UK committed against the UK government, working in conjunction with other agencies where necessary.

 

Duties:

  • Operate across the UK conducting visits to suspects, witnesses and other organisations to obtain witness statements and material in accordance with the provisions of PACE, the Criminal Justice Act and Civil Procedure Rules where applicable.
  • Prepare applications for search warrants under PACE and attend Magistrates’/Crown Courts to lay supporting information where applicable.
  • Prepare applications for assistance from other agencies in joint arrest and search operations.  To brief officers prior to the operation and be accountable for all evidence seized by the police.
  • Act as first or second officer in interviews, including Interviews Under Caution (IUC) conducted in public buildings, police stations or other agency premises, in accordance with legislation.
  • Prepare both full and abbreviated prosecution files, to include the identification and listing of all unused sensitive and non-sensitive material.
  • Ensure prosecution files are completed in line with the Crown Prosecution Service national file standards.
  • Adhere to relevant policies and procedures
  • To give evidence at court as a professional witness and assist vulnerable witnesses.
  • Close files on completion of investigations, taking necessary action to ensure that relevant facts are recorded.
  • Maintain a caseload which meet the safe working standards as defined in the operational manual, prioritising your workload to ensure that investigations are conducted expeditiously.
  • Prepare and make applications for the authorisation of covert activity including surveillance applications and any other relevant activity.
  • Prepare for, and undertake, covert surveillance (if appropriately trained) with other officers in the department or partner agencies.  To prepare and deliver operation orders and briefings for such activity to other staff, police officers and other agencies.

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Nationally recognised law enforcement investigation qualification which can include the Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist, PIP2 and relevant recent experience.
  • Experience of investigating Fraud and economic crime.
  • Collecting and accurately recording evidence for use in the prosecution of criminal offences
  • Experience of interviewing witnesses and preparing witness statements to court standards
  • Experience of giving evidence at courts or tribunals.
  • Have interviewed suspects in accordance with PACE at an advanced level.
  • Experience of acting as the Disclosure Officer and understanding the Codes of Practice of the Criminal Procedures for Investigations Act 1996.
  • Proven track record of successful inter-agency working.
  • Formal training and experience in arresting persons suspected of crime.
  • Experience of compiling and submitting evidential prosecution files in line with National File Standards
