We are currently recruiting for an Investigative Officer in Blackburn.

 

Pay rate: £17.58 per hour.

Contract duration: Temporary ongoing

 

Purpose:

To ethically conduct investigations into homicides and other serious and complex crimes.

 

Duties: 

  • Conduct serious and complex investigations, plan and manage own workload, and retain OIC
  • Secure, preserve and gather evidence to support law enforcement
  • Undertake tasks accordingly with accredited
  • Plan, prepare and be involved in the execution of
  • Work in partnership with other departments and agencies to safeguard and protect those at risk of
  • Interview witnesses and take statements as part of investigations in line with Achieving Best Evidence
  • Provide support to victims and witnesses and assess their need for further support throughout the criminal justice
  • Interview people suspected of committing offences and conduct process
  • Use internal IT systems to research and maintain records regarding individuals and investigations.
  • Complete comprehensive investigation reports and case
  • Present evidence to CPS and at court, to prosecute offenders through the criminal justice system.

Knowledge/Experience: 

Essential:

  • Successfully investigating serious and complex crimes.
  • Safeguarding vulnerable members of the community and those at risk of abuse
  • Gathering critical evidence by interviewing victims, significant witnesses and suspects.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Criminal Justice System relating to the PACE Act, including searching premises, handling exhibits, interviewing suspects, RIPA 1998 and CPIA 1996, relating to disclosure.
  • Working on own initiative, investigating problems, developing solutions and taking appropriate timely action to resolve them.
  • Maintaining & interrogating computerised systems and manual filing systems.
  • Communicating at all levels with a wide range of audiences.
  • Working effectively and efficiently as part of a team, and working with minimal supervision.
  • Dealing with members of the public and working in partnership with other departments and agencies.
  • Dealing with difficult situations or conflict.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality using tact and diplomacy where appropriate.

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of intelligence gathering procedure and policies.
  • Specialist Investigative Interviewer Tier 3 (victim and suspects).
  • PNC database trained.
  • Knowledge and experience of using HOLMES

 

Qualification:

  • PIP Level 2 trained and accredited.
